Creative Wedding Workshop

I have always enjoyed making things and often my family would joke, that if I could make it myself I would have a go, rather then give in and buying it. This sometimes resulted in a disaster or didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I would still perceived.

So, when it came to my own wedding 13 years ago, I didn't hesitate and suggested that I will make my own wedding invitations, table centre pieces, flower arrangements for the church and my own flower bouquet. I was going to make my own dress, but in the end found exactly the one I wanted in a shop (for the same money as I would spend on fabric), so it didn't really make sense to sew my own in the end.

I wish I had digital pictures of my wedding to show you (and when I master my new printer/scanner - I definitely will!), but I created glass painted wedding invitations which were all hand painted (yes, all 150 of them!) with Celtic motive of two intertwined dragons. As my other half is cricket mad, I also printed funny quotes about cricket to go with the flower decorations on each table. Quotes like: 'September is a sad month for a cricketer, it's the time of a year, that he played the last match of a season and found our that his wife left him in May' went down really well...

I have really enjoyed creating my own wedding, but it was also very stressful being both the bride and the person who needs to organise everything. My husband to be, helped a lot, but I was still at midnight decorating the church whilst he was picking my brother from Heathrow airport.

Once the day started, everything just fell in the place and we had a great day and enjoyed every minute and perhaps quite un-traditionally were the last people to leave the party venue.

The reason, why I'm reminiscing about my own wedding, is because I was asked to run creative wedding workshops for brides to be and to show them how to create their perfect day. I'm planning to pack quite a lot into one day - with workshops and practical advice based on my own experience.

As far as I know, there are still few tickets left, so if they are any brides to be amongst you, you are welcome to follow the link in the poster.

  1. aww i think your workshop is a lovely idea! What could be more romantic than creating your own wedding :) I love the personal touch you added to your own like the cricket jokes - how fun! :)

  2. What a great idea, l'm sure that lots of brides (and grooms) to be would love to find out more about what they can do themselves towards their big day.
